Description:
An exceptional museum-quality masterpiece of English Arts & Crafts studio art pottery. This monumental early 20th-century tall pitcher ewer stands an incredible 20.25 inches tall with a tight 4-inch mouth opening and a substantial 6-inch base. Hand-thrown from native North Devon red clay at the Barnstaple workshop, this exhibition-scale piece showcases a spectacular, continuous sgraffito and relief-molded panoramic landscape wrapping completely around the column.

The highly detailed narrative scenes masterfully transition from a wild forest sanctuary—featuring a perched songbird, dense branches, a birdhouse, and a large Art Nouveau five-petal blossom—into a classic coastal view complete with a structured rustic cabin, a traditional Dutch windmill, and European sailboats navigating the water.

The vessel is finished in a magnificent, highly reflective multi-toned slip glaze where rich cobalt blue, deep emerald green, and metallic dark brown pool heavily within the incised lines, contrasting beautifully with warm honey-amber highlights. The interior rim features the classic dark brown slip lining over deep wheel-turn marks. Unmarked or indistinctly incised on the base, as typical for specialized large-scale studio works from this era.

Excellent antique condition with normal factory glaze pops and; completely free of chips, cracks, or restorations. Free shipping included.
